With fall just a week away, our kids are excited!  We have captured some of the anticipation with fall crafts that you can make with your own children to learn, play, and create!

Fall Pumpkin Craft

Materials needed:  Wikki Stix, Mounting Paper, and Assorted Candies or Fall items (silk leaves, acorns, real leaves, sticks, small rocks, etc.)

Invite the children to play and create!  Give the children a piece of paper (copy paper, construction paper, scrapbook paper, or cardstock), assorted candies &/or nature items, and orange/green/brown Wikki Stix.  The children should make an outline of a pumpkin on the paper and randomly arrange Wikki Stix in the center of the design (see photo below).

The Wikki Stix will act as glue to adhere the candies or assorted nature items to the pumpkin.  It is fun to see the different pumpkin crafts children can create!

Counting Pumpkin Seeds - A Math Craft for Kids

Materials needed:  Orange/White/Yellow Wikki Stix, Scissors, and a Paper Plate.

Counting Pumpkins Seeds is a fun seasonal craft!  The children can make any kind of pumpkin desired on a paper plate with the orange/yellow Wikki Stix.  Wikki Stix are wax-covered yarn sticks that have many uses for tactile learning, creating, and play!

Have the children cut small pieces of white Wikki Stix with scissors to resemble pumpkin seeds (if desired, real pumpkin seeds can also be used).  Wikki Stix can be cut with safety scissors, but younger children may need assistance.

Write any number the children have have had introduced and ask them to place the corresponding number of "seeds" on their pumpkin craft.   It is a great way to develop one-to-one correspondence skills for early math!

As we introduce each number to our kids in the Fall, we make one paper plate pumpkin craft to use over and over again.  Creating the crafts with Wikki Stix will help cement number concepts and enhance fine motor development, too!

Cardboard Tube Pumpkin Patch

Materials needed:   Empty Cardboard Tube, a Paint Tray or Paper Plate, Construction Paper, and Orange Washable Tempera Paint.

Set out orange paint for the children on a paper plate or paint tray.  Give the children a sheet of construction paper and an empty cardboard tube (paper towel or TP rolls).

The children can make pumpkin prints on their paper with one end of the tube dipped in the orange paint.

Have the children decorate their pumpkins as desired.
