Whether this is your first or fiftieth Thanksgiving celebration, planning a particularly memorable meal for your family and friends requires a lot of thought. It's important not only to consider what recipes to choose and how to prepare your turkey, but more importantly which ingredients to buy. These ingredients are the foundation of the menu and will inevitably make a huge impact on the meal. Seemingly simple choices like purchasing ABF (antibiotic free), farm-raised…

Time flies. There is no way around it. I have discovered and decided that there is no cure for how fast time passes. The only thing we can do is figure out how to stay connected to what is important, make the time we spend away from people we love as efficient as possible so we can in turn spend more time with our loved ones. Lately I have been rattled by news of rather unexpected deaths of friends and people I grew up with. I am by no means considering myself old but I am no longer young,…

There is a lot of buzz among moms about the three “amigos” – Asthma, Allergies and Eczema. Almost daily, I hear about them on the news, read an article or recent medical report about them and I NEVER escape an encounter with other moms without a conversation about the recent havoc they have wreaked. I would venture to say that half of my children’s classmates have been diagnosed with one or all three….It’s crazy!
As the mother of three children who have suffered with all three, almost…

Seeing your baby achieve milestones is a moment of joy and pride for parents. Smiling, rolling over, grabbing, hugging, playing peek-a-boo, sitting up, crawling, pulling up and walking are some milestones babies achieve in their first few months. But did you know these milestones can be boosted with the help of appropriate toys.
So here’s how toys by milestones can help your baby:
A baby masters many of the skills in the initial period of 18 months. Play is the best possible…

Having spent the past 25 years passionately involved in coaching education, I think we have finally found a venue that can have a major impact in the training and education of our parent coaches. The single biggest challenge over the years has been finding a way to reach parent coaches that does not infringe too heavily upon their free time, of which, they seem to have very little.
Ask any recreational director, and they will list as their toughest part of the job:
* Getting…

I am becoming increasingly alarmed and dismayed by the ever increasing numbers of articles about the “boredom “of motherhood.
Women in the past didn’t have the luxury of being bored .marriage and motherhood was a fulltime occupation .They washed ( by hand ) baked ,cooked, cleaned ( by hand ) Special days had to be set aside to get through all of the work!
I seem to remember my grandmother’s Monday washing day morning routine.
Up at 5am to light the fire under the…

This is the title of an article out of Washington today on the importance of talking to babies early. It supports all I have found in my own experience of teaching Kindergarten on how important it is to talk to your babies from day one as if they understand every word you say! In my book "Teach Baby to talk and make Reading Fun" I stress the importance of how early talk builds vocabulary, language and develops brain connections!
WASHINGTON: The sooner you start explaining the…

Line marking is an essential process for many schools, or other locations where a large number of children will be leaving a single building at one time. Parents will often be waiting outside, and the high volumes of human and road traffic make it easy for accidents to occur. This is especially the case when we factor small children into the equation, many of whom are too small or forgetful to actively look out for…

Thank you to everyone who came out to my book release party for A BOOK OF BULLIES. It was a lot of fun, with good food and music, friends, and I sold a lot of books! I spoke about my reasons for writing this book, and received a standing ovation. I was very happy and proud. I hope that my success with this book will inspire other people with special needs to believe in themselves, even if nobody else believes in you. If you want to do something, just do your best and don't give up.…

They have many ADHD kids at F2W and have worked with many over the years. An ADD mind needs enough stimulation and direction to harness its awesome power. Trying to quiet it or shut it down never works well and increases anxiety. Sometimes, having music going in the background while reading or doing two things at once helps these minds focus. Lumosity has this great computer exercise where there is a nature scene. A bird shows up with a number superimposed on it. You identify where…

I haven't posted in awhile, but am in a reflecting kind of mood AND hubby's glued to the football game, so here goes...
Several things lately have made me think, reflect... Maybe it's my age, maybe it's that my oldest is a Senior, or maybe it's just God's way of making me slow down and "smell the roses" so to speak.
My daughter, now 18, has struggled with some pretty serious learning disabilities in her life. I have yet to tell our story (book in the works) but after…

Hey moms out there, I'm a 17 year old senior. In order for me to graduate i have to have a senior portfolio, which includes me having to do a documentary on a social issue. the social issue i chose is "television effecting a child's behavior". so i was wondering if you could record yourselves talking about how this has effected your childs life or email me writing about this issue, so i can include in my documentary. @wilson9615@gmail.com

At a recent social gathering a group of us asked a friend how her sister, a first time mom, was managing her twin toddlers—two bright-eyed and beautiful 12 month old girls whose photos regularly lit up our Facebook feeds. “She’s doing fabulous,” our friend told us excitedly, “and the girls are just thriving!” We were happy to hear this and leaned in to hear more, after all there is a sort of curiosity as to how mothers who have been doubly blessed deal with their two, where most of us have…

It's been a while since I last posted, wow what a crazy fast summer! Between work and vacation, back to school and life I haven't had as much time to write as I'd like. But guess what!? Halloween is right around the corner!! How exciting :)
I figured I'd share some of my plans and ideas for Halloween with everyone and hope to see you share some of yours.
My kids love Halloween a lot more than I do, I am more of a Christmas kinda gal myself. But every year they come up with…

Before a child can experience success with a new skill, like using scissors, they must be developmentally ready to attain that skill. Here are some simple & safe pre-scissor readiness tips to get little hands ready for using scissors by tapping into the development of eye-hand coordination, bilateral hand skills (using hands together in a dominant-assistant fashion), and the ability to isolate and/or combine movements of the thumb and opposing fingers to allow for opening and…
